I've installed Ubuntu Gutsy beta for X86_64 and now suspend works all the times (at least the five or six times that I've tried it). With the i386 version I couldn't suspend three times in a row and also Network Manager crashed. The other change has been that now I'm using ext3 instead of xfs as the root filesystem. I don't know if that may be important.
