Hi ! I have the same kind of problem. I have recently upgraded to kubuntu Gutsy beta and automount sometimes fails depending on the device. This is a huge regression as far as i'm concerned, as it worked flawlessly in feisty.
I can also mount the partition manually as Pedalli said. By plugging my USB Hard drive, I obtain the attached addition to syslog. I have read somewhere that there has been a rework of the KDE kio_media slave or something like that. This may be the cause. I don't think dolphin is the culprit. I would be glad to help.
