I don't know why you're trying to upgrade update-manager and not the
whole distro, so I'm a bit confused...
Anyway, does it work fine if:
1) you edit /etc/apt/sources.list and comment out 3rd party repos then do "sudo
apt-get dist-upgrade"
2) you run: gksu "update-manager -d"
?? Those are the suggested methods of updating, and, frankly, I have no
idea what you were trying to do manually. It looks like maybe you tried
to upgrade just the update-manager before upgrading everything else, but
that requires another option ("-u" I think), as far as I know. Anyway,
the command to upgrade from Feisty to Gutsy after changing the
sources.list is dist-upgrade, not just upgrade, so that could be your
problem.
