Public bug reported:

So I am using Ubuntu 14.04, fresh install with the 4.2 kernel. I have a
GeForce GTX 970 GPU and an Asus PB287q 4k monitor. The monitor has built
in speakers. The sound should play just fine through the monitors built
in speakers. I have the monitor connected to the GPU via a display port
cable. Visually, everything works, but the sound either doesn't work at
all, or it crashes after I pause something playing sound. I have tried
killing pulseaudio, reinstalling pulseaudio, almost everything you could
think of with pulseaudio but no avail. The sound plays just fine through
a USB headset but not the displayport so I think it is a graphics driver
problem. Everything works flawlessly on Windows.
