I'm trying out the patch vs 4.4.0-16 (on Xenial) and 4.4.0-14 (on
Trusty) on a couple of T460s machines using

apt-get source linux-image-4.4.0-16-generic && cd linux-4.4.0 && patch
-p1 < ../../t460-smm-pstates.patch && dpkg-buildpackage

I'm not sure this is the right approach, but the advice at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/BuildYourOwnKernel didn't work for me (is
it out of date?) I built and installed with the patch OK (i.e. no hang
on lid close) on Trusty using make deb-pkg CONFIG_LOCALVERSION=-blah but
K/BYOK advises against it.
