I can duplicate this bug on Lubuntu. If I run Metacity, the bug shows up (hearing-wise). I have installed windows and lubuntu as legacy, but I am still on the previous or original bios.
The new bios did not change the clicking noise and messed up eufi settings to be "more secure" and forget my settings to boot lubuntu as secure. That problem went away when I downgraded back to my original bios (not easy to do).
