Public bug reported:

Ubuntu: 16.04 64 bit up to date as of time of reporting.
Host: VMware Workstation

Running DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive apt-get install snort -y fails
and tracing it back tells me the regular expression to check for
interfaces is outdated and needs to be updated (my network interface
name is ens32).
