As requested I installed the newest mainline kernel (uname -a reports: Linux
knut-ThinkPad-L460 4.6.0-040600rc4-generic #201604172330 SMP Mon Apr 18
03:32:32 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux).
For the first time I could use two displays in extended desktop mode but after
some moments the system froze again, now I'm using only the external monitor.
Therefore I would say, there is little progress.
During installation of the rc4-kernel there were some issues, however
installation finished with "erledigt", which is german and translates to
"done". I copied the output and attach it here. In the next comment I'll add
the log that should be consulted.
Then I tag this bug as requested with 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream' and
'Confirmed'.
As the notebook is new this was a fresh installation of Ubuntu 15.10 I cannot
say, whether there are prior kernel versions without this bug.
Thanks for caring for my issue and tell me please if there are any additional
information needed to address this.
