Please don't be pathetic, Lee. With the provided patch the postinst script doesn't fail anymore. So we are talking about some warnings, that appear if the caching app cannot connect to the given x display. These are not nice, but I am not sure if this a bug of high priority.
No, caching on the first run is a bad idea. The first impression counts. There is nearly no howto that describes installing an app using gnome- app-install.
