You make an excellent point about single-point-of-failure. It wouldn't
necessarily have to be a new daemon. ZFS already has a daemon, so this
could just be additional functionality.

I've pointed Brian Behlendorf (the upstream ZFS-on-Linux lead developer)
to this bug report. It'd be nice to get some official comments from
upstream.

As I said, I definitely want to see something done, to make removable
media work correctly. (Though how to unmount it is a different
question.)
