Attempted to follow this test case for Xubuntu 16.04 release candidate:

With an 8GB disk and an existing Ubuntu Server 15.10 install that only
uses 1.6GB of the disk, the "Installation type" screen does not give any
option to install alongside. A previous Xubuntu desktop install only
used 3.6GB of disk, so it appears that a side-by-side install should be
possible but no auto-resizing option is presented.
