Public bug reported:

We are running a couple of busy servers (each processing ~7000 requests
per minute) with PHP application, on Ubuntu 14.04, 64 bit. There is a
load balancer, servers receive more or less equal traffic.

We were running a common set of PHP with PHP 5.5.9+dfsg-1ubuntu4.14.

Typical load on the servers is around 2-3:

 13:50:57 up 141 days, 6:22, 1 user, load average: 2.02, 2.33, 2.45

Today, we've decided to update the packages (apt-get update and
friends). This updated our PHP packages to 5.5.9+dfsg-1ubuntu4.16.

After this - load average on the servers skyrocketed:

 13:45:11 up 141 days, 8:15, 1 user, load average: 62.08, 48.32,
28.68

Updated two more servers - same thing, load average goes up to 50-70.
Given this issue, we're not updating the packages on the rest of the
servers (which continue to run with load of 2-3; updated servers have
load of 50-70).

Is it a known issue in PHP 5.5.9+dfsg-1ubuntu4.16? What should we do to
debug this?
