Re-tested today/yesterday with 16.04 LTS (official release), with
existing partitions deleted.

HP Stream 11 Pro G2 notebook (Braswell SoC, Celeron N3050), with 64GB
eMMC (SSD) storage.

Issue still occurs, with prompt (black box) on startup. No pauses (for
<Enter> at command line) doing update/upgrade, but also no updates
available (at present).

Corrected (per Comment #75, #76), with:

$ cat /etc/fstab
--
# swap was on /dev/mmcblk0p3 during installation
--

$ sudo sfdisk --part-attrs /dev/mmcblk0 3 "63"

(after reboot)
$ swapon -s
--
