Each app/tool has its own design/limit.
As you try to cut/paste a huge files number or folder(s) with lot of files, its 
not hard to understand that you need huge ram too: at least twice the whole 
weight of the moved files.  System Monitor can help you seeing that.

A strong and stable tool like 'cp' is better designed to do your needs.

but as it is an upstream decision to set nautilus handling special cases
as yours, then report it on gnome bugzilla. Ubuntu  is not concerned by
such a requested feature .
