I'm not certain which drop-down you talk about. I noticed the combo-box for the destination of the boot loader, more on the bottom of the page, where I set, as written in my original bug description : ... Installed with this layout: / to /dev/sda5 (just a free partion) grub to /dev/sda The installer run a few minutes, the I get two messages: first, something with ' can' t install grub to /target/ ...' Then " the installer crashed' , and some apport reporting dialog opens, which redirects me to this web page. ...
Thus to /dev/sda , not to /dev/sda1 . I guess that this was a fault, and that I should have chosen /dev/sda1 instead. Maybe, but again, the issue (of the ticket) is that the installer crashes, not that the system might be unusable. I think it is ok when the user (me) does manual partition without much experience with EFI and then gets a broken system. I took the risk (and did a backup).
