Pedro, thank you for the hint, I'll try if that works as a workaround for me :-). I though the module build would disable secure boot since a dialog for a password for disabling pops up. But it remains the question to me what changed from kernel-4.4.0-18 to 4.4.0-21 that somehow broke the wl module loading process. Maybe it's that disabling that does not work anymore and if you disable security boot in BIOS you come around this?
