I've also experienced this problem. I'm running a clean install of Lubuntu 16.04 Xenial Xerus on an AMD A4 chipset desktop PC with AMD Radeon HD6410 APU.
I've also noticed that whenever lightlocker kicks in, the desktop session crashes. When I return to wake up the screen, I am faced with the session login screen, rather than the unlock dialog, and the applications which were running before the screensaver started are now not running = new session. I don't know if this is a related bug, or if there is a separate bug report for this issue, but it seems related to me. I also vaguely recall this second issue being a problem in an earlier LTS release, possibly Precise or Trusty. Regards Simon's question "Does lubuntu install another screensaver on top of light-locker?" I have seen instances where an upgrade install (eg Xubuntu DE on top of Ubuntu) can cause gnome-screensaver to coexist with light locker, causing problems.
