Thunderbird stopped making the noise and may have been just the greeter screen. I think gtk3 is ok because firefox works ok. Wine still makes the noise if i launch any application under wine. I am sure (not tested for this version) that adding a compost manager like metacity will make the noise. Compton works without noise in Lubuntu 16.04. I Tested Mate 16.04 and it makes noise even with removing the compost manager in the tweaker. Same problem with xubuntu 16.04. Noise even with removing the compost manager on tweak.
Once the noise starts, it sill not stop until reboot. Logoff will not change anything. One exception.
