Nevermind, it seems that i jumped the gun. It happened again. If i had
to guess i'd say that the freezes are more likely to occur when the
computer has been on for awhile and is in moderate use. Others have
hinted at processor heat problems, often when one freeze occurs and the
computer is immediately rebooted the freezes occur with more frequency
(perhaps because the processor is already hot?).
