Does it crash if you play audio files? Does it crash if you start vlc as 'vlc --avcodec-hw none' then play video? Does it crash if you start vlc as 'vlc --vout x11' then play video? Does it crash if you start vlc as 'vlc --avcodec-hw none --vout x11' then play video?
