Hello Christopher, testing the latest current Intel upstream kernel also has the bug. The rc5 kernel is still the highest default kernel in my Grub2 boot menu, so i had to use the [esc] key when booting up to manually choose which kernel to load. After loading the Intel upstream kernel 4.6.0-994-generic my system was observed to have frozen like before. So the bug is still present in the latest upstream kernel.
andrew@andrew-Inspiron-3451:~$ uname -r 4.6.0-994-generic andrew@andrew-Inspiron-3451:~$ uname -a Linux andrew-Inspiron-3451 4.6.0-994-generic #201604292201 SMP Sat Apr 30 02:03:11 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux andrew@andrew-Inspiron-3451:~$ --- However i decided to also try the oldest available kernel in my my Grub2 boot menu. That kernel happens to be 3.16.0-70-generic which i assume is the kernel i had in ubuntu 14.04 which had no problems. after briefly testing this old kernel so far i have seen no problems whatsoever. Until i see otherwise i will conclude that the bug was introduced somewhere after kernel 3.16.0-70-generic. (for those following this bug report with the same problem as me it might be prudent to use this old kernel until someone can fix this bug). andrew@andrew-Inspiron-3451:~$ uname -r 3.16.0-70-generic andrew@andrew-Inspiron-3451:~$ uname -a Linux andrew-Inspiron-3451 3.16.0-70-generic #90~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 6 22:56:34 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux andrew@andrew-Inspiron-3451:~$ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1575467 Title: Ubuntu 16.04 consistently freezes up / hangs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1575467/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
