** Summary changed:

- grub install fails on (hd0,1)
+ grub install fails on (hd0)

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: ubiquity

I tried installing 7.10 beta on the unused second partition of the only
ATA hard drive but did not want grub on the MBR, so I replaced (hd0)
with (hd0,1) in the graphical installer's advanced options. The
installer said grub failed, but nothing about why or how to make it
  work.
+
+ Edit: I just now took the plunge and tried it on (hd0), and it failed
+ with the same message.
