I have the same problem, two dialogs on autologin, zero without autologin.
libpam_keyring (or whatever it's called, we're all talking about the same...) 
works if I don't use autologin.
I guess the problem is that if no password is entered, the keyring cannot be 
opened. That's why gdm needs to get a password.
The two dialog problem, comes from the fact that a second keyring called 
"login" is created, if you choose to have it opened at login (see the first 
dialog box). This "login" keyring, opens the "default" keyring (or something 
like that), which in turn holds your keys for NM. If no password is provided 
(autologin), the "login" keyring is not opened, and neither is "default". I 
guess it's a bug that "login" doesn't open "default" if it's provided with the 
password.

But the behavior is more or less understandable...
