> Well, the way it works is we need to demote everything that depends /build-depends on python2 first. But yes, the goal is for it to be demoted for 18.04 but that is a stretch goal - so waiting is certainly an option.
Pfew, what a relief ;-D > Moving from Main to Universe does not (at least in my understanding) mean that we cannot use bzr as part of ubuntu infrastructure. It can still get security updates, but we would not guarantee them from the security team. Thanks, I was unclear about the demoting fallouts, yeah, I understand security updates comes into play (the bazaar project faces this same issue with users still on python2.6... would be nice if they go to 2.7. >From that, I perfectly understand the desire to go to python3 for Ubuntu ;) My /personal/ motivation here is to find an escape path for people still having bzr repositories when an hypothetical python3 bzr drop some compatibility with old formats. A different scale of backwards compatibility :-/ > Just to be clear: absolutely nothing is cast in stone, I'm not a decision maker on this, and it's not urgent at this time. I just wanted to get a headstart on 18.04 so we have a better chance to have python2 out of main. Full ack ! 18.04 is different from 16.10 ;-) My last efforts have been to release bzr-2.7 into the xenial LTS to buy time. Who knows, in the 18.04 timeframe a bzr snap may address the issue (for Ubuntu, security updates are a different story still). Thanks for the clarifications and apologies for the knee jerk initial reaction ;) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1577847 Title: Demote Bazaar to universe?
