I can also confirm that manually installing 4.4.9 fixed the problem.

Installed the following .deb files for my 64 bits system:

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.4.9-xenial/linux-headers-4.4.9-040409-generic_4.4.9-040409.201605041832_amd64.deb
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.4.9-xenial/linux-headers-4.4.9-040409_4.4.9-040409.201605041832_all.deb
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.4.9-xenial/linux-image-4.4.9-040409-generic_4.4.9-040409.201605041832_amd64.deb

sudo dpkg -i linux-headers-4.4.9* linux-image-4.4.9*
