Public bug reported: When running BOINC without an X-server, or under systemd with PrivateTmp set to true, a crash occurs (after about 5 minutes). This is because the idle detection code is trying to open /tmp/.X11-unix, and the error case (the case where the directory doesn't exist or isn't accessible) isn't handled correctly.
This is documented upstream at https://github.com/BOINC/boinc/issues/1530, and fixed with the commit https://github.com/BOINC/boinc/commit/8416d8a1a423535fbc5d4e7416d6eac8ac5c050b, but hasn't made into a release yet. This is under Ubuntu 16.04 (xenial), with version 7.6.31+dfsg-6. ** Affects: boinc (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: xenial ** Description changed: When running BOINC without an X-server, or under systemd with PrivateTmp set to true, a crash occurs (after about 5 minutes).
