Public bug reported:

After installing the most recently available packages (daily update),
gdm is unable to startup. It keeps crashing and restarting until I kill
it. After this, the only option is to use kdm and login from there.
However, gnome is corrupt, most applications fail to startup, all with
similar error exceptions:

ImportError: /usr/lib/libxml2.so.2: undefined symbol: gzopen64

or

** ERROR **: bonobo activation error when registering unique application
aborting...
Aborted (core dumped)

** Affects: ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
