I'd be inclined to avoid this due to new features and very close to
release.
Can you get this patch and apply it to the current version we have:
- SS: fix of bug #1781937: conversion to/from unicode just for
displaying text in the GTK+ GUI must not be done anymore, there
were problems with special characters
