Public bug reported:
I am on Gutsy with a Dell Vostro 1500 and my microphone does not work at
all. The microphone was not actually being detected by ALSA (I couldn't
set it as an input source in gnome-volume-control), but I found this
bug: https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=203 and
followed the workaround to put "options snd-hda-intel model=ref" in
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base. This resulted in the microphone being
detected (I could set it as the input source) but there were two issues:
* When I plugged external speaker in, sound would continue to play on the
laptop's internal speakers
* I still can't manage to record any sound with the microphone (this might be
because I don't have it configured correctly but I have played around with lots
of different settings)
Incidentally, I had to upgrade to alsa-driver-1.0.15rc3 in order to get
my sound to work (see bug #131133), but I'm pretty sure this is also an
issue in the Gutsy packaged version of alsa-driver.
Any work around or fix for this would be really appreciated. Thanks.
