Same thing here I think. GIMP tried to update yesterday, but couldn't. Now
today when trying to update I got the
"Software index is broken" message saying,
"It is impossible to install or remove any software. Please use the package
manager "Synaptic" or run "sudo apt-get install -f" in a terminal to fix this
issue at first."
the terminal output is on the attachment.
I think bug #149048 is the same thing.
