I did the BIOS upgrade.
darek@LAPTOP-PORTABLE:~$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s
bios-release-date
A14

It has not change anything - I still get
usb 2-1.2: device descriptor read/64, error -110
and after unplugging and replugging USB stick the booting moves forward.
