@Antonie @Joseph Like @huizache says, maybe it is an Unity issue? Perhaps the kernel has nothing to do with it. I'm on a slow net connection now and am downloading Ubuntu MATE desktop. I'll check and revert back to confirm the memory usage once it downloads
