Public bug reported:
In Gutsy, last update gave me a new kernel 2, 26.22-13
The repositories are missgin the restricted modules for this kernel so
when restarting, my nvidia module was missing.
X started up in fail safe mode like it should. After searcing for the missing
nvidia module I gave up and rebooted back to the old kernel.
I enabled the nvidia module and restarted.
Now, my xorg.conf is totally destroyed. It's full of failfsafe-crap and the
defautl mode is 800*600 pixels. This has the effect that GDM starts in 800*600
and everything look like back in '90.
It's really ugly and this will force me to manually hack my xorg.conf - so this
failsafe mode has only caused me extra job and not helped me as intended.
Failsafe mode should not change and overwrite xorg.conf...
