Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: gnome
Copy and Paste does not work half of the time in Gnome. What works even
less is pasting stuff via middle mouse button. The latter is for the
reason, that activating things in Gnome very often also results in
certain input fields being marked by default. This usually overrides the
text you have marked deliberately.
KDE handles this differently! I believe the way they do it provides
better usability. Texts like the URL in Konqueror are marked by default,
so you can easily paste your new URL from the middle-key-clipboard to
replace what is in there now. You can paste this without having to mark
the URL by hand and therefore loosing your current middle-key-clipboard
value, thereby rendering the middle-key functionality unusable for that
matter.
System-induced markings thereby do not overwrite the middle-key-
clipboard, which is the correct behavior, since well, I did not
initiate/want it, right?
Other then that, Gnome very often looses what I CTRL+C to the clipboard.
I have no idea why. Could be it is using the same clipboard for the
middle key as it is using for CTRL+C.
This is a bug, which I would mark as "embarrassing" as well, according
to this: bug #149775
Some might say, this is not a bug, but the way Gnome people want it to
be. But still it is a BUG since most people don't expect it to be that
way!
