** Description changed:

After #1421583 was fixed, there is now an option to share data
connection using WiFi AP. However, I still rely on USB tethering in many
cases instead of WiFi. The latest example was when I was without
firmware for WiFi adapter after installing Debian 8.2. Luckily Nexus 5
with Android 6.0 offered an option to use USB tethering and I was able
  to fetch firmware.

Please add an option to have USB tethering in ubuntu-system-settings.
This option shouldn't offer anything else than a simple "On/Off" switch.
The interface itself should act as an Ethernet interface, the same way
  as Android does.
+
+ -------------
+
+ This works today from the command line by running "android-gadget-
+ service enable rndis" on the device. To restore mtp functionality its
+ "android-gadget-service enable mtp"
+
+ Not sure where to present enabling and disabling of it, wifi hotspot
+ seems similar but is only shown if there is a modem.need a Tehthering
+ option somewhere.
