In the end this bug was due to a corrupt libxml2 library. It got
corrupted during installing updates while not having enough space on /.
The result was that libxml2 was corrupt in /usr/lib and incorrect in
/usr/local/lib. Removing the one in /usr/local/lib and reinstalling
libxml2 got everything working again.
