It's important to killall fwupd manually, or reboot to make sure you get a
fresh fwupd process to verify this fix.

Also the USB device could possibly be in a bad state from the previous
interactions.

If you can upon update:

1) unplug your USB device
2) killall fwupd or reboot
3) plug in device

Hopefully things should be in better shape.
