Public bug reported:

The ubuntu desktop CD fails on display detection on Samsung R60+
The graphics card is ATI Radeon X1250 and VESA modes fails with the following
error:

Fatal server error :
no screens found
XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0"
after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaning.

Reconfiguring the xserver-xorg with defaults doesn't work:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

...

startx

(same error)

----

The only sollution I found is providing fglrx propietary driver from
within the live cd:

1) Install fglrx:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install xorg-driver-fglrx
sudo aticonfig --initial
sudo aticonfig --overlay-type=Xv

2) startx

3) Manually launch ubiquity (desktop icon cannot be launched: "Failed to run
.../ubiquity 'gtk_ui' as user root. Unable to copy the user's Xauthorization
file.)
So I run:
sudo ubiquity --desktop %k gtk_ui

---

Please note that, in spite of being able to install, I don't find the
solution easy / suitable for my dad.

Thanks

J.
