If you use 'git clone' to acquire your kernel tree, the script files
will be set to the correct executable permissions automatically.  If you
use another method (apt-get source, or manual extraction of a tarball),
then you must 'chmod' them yourself as documented in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/BuildYourOwnKernel#Modifying_the_configuration
