Dear Chris and Uli, I have installed Lubuntu 16.04 on another disk with pokini1. Running kernel 4.4.0 does not produce the bug anymore. But, the Gui is still broken, just no more kernel NULL pointer dereference error. I had to change the display also and it is not HDMI.
I had gotten following info from Uli: cause of problem is the GMA500 driver which causes the issues when used with an HDMI display and the 1920x1080 resolution. So far I was able to verify that. The issue is related to the HDMI resolution and hence the driver. My bios has two options for the shared memory for the display: - 128 MiB and - 256 MiB I use since the very first installation the 256MiB option in then which never gave issues. Seems that the current GMA500 driver needs more than 256 MiB or some checks on available memory are not done properly... I shall try now to blacklist the GMA500 driver and will let you know Thahnks for your help and patience. regards hjl -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1567781 Title: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 00000134 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1567781/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
