Hello, I have a Dell XPS 15 9550 with Ubuntu GNOME 16.04. I managed to
solve the issue by installing Kernel 4.7 RC3 from Mainline PPA and then
running this commands in Terminal:

rm -r ~/.config/pulse/
pulseaudio -k && sudo alsa force-reload
sudo reboot

I have my headphones being detected automatically and audio output is
smoothly transfered to them. Same when I unplug them. I rebooted again
twice and I found out that worked to in Kernel 4.4 (Latest from Ubuntu
repos).

Hope that helps.
