Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

If desktop effects are enabled sometimes the system freezes. The
backgroundprocesses works, i can hear soundoutput from videoplayback, the
harddisks work and the internet/network connections works too. I can also login
from another computer via ssh into my machine and restart X manually.
If the desktop freezes, it seems to crash only the graphics card - but i can't
switch to a console ! (Only the way over the network with ssh works)
I use the nvidia-glx-new driver on my nvidia 7600GT 512MB (MSI) and with all
gutsy beta updates from the mainserver.
Without desktop effects (and the free nv driver) the system is stable like a
rock.
This happens also on another systems like suse, so i think it is a bug in the
nvidia driver or in compiz fusion.

** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
