Public bug reported:

I upgraded to ubuntu 7.10 beta and I noticed that the sound control in
gnome is disabled. It appears as if the system didn't detect a sound
device on my computer. I have an ASUS P5B Deluxe/WiFi-AP LGA 775 Intel
P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard, which has a sound device on the
motherboard and it works when I switch to the Win XP partition.
