I do have a wired icon regardless of connection type. However, it is only the wired connection that actually works; disconnecting the cable does not change the icon, but does remove connectivity altogether (so there's a "wired-connection" icon even though networking is not working).
It sounds like the file "brcmfmac43602-pcie.txt" is just missing from the kernel package, while it is expected to be present.
