I did the following and the monitor is way too bright.

Install lowlatency kernel.
$ sudo apt-get install linux-lowlatency-lts-vivid

After small kernel upgrade, I want to keep the current kernel number, so I 
remove the meta package.
$ apt purge linux-lowlatency-lts-vivid linux-image-lowlatency-lts-vivid 
linux-headers-lowlatency-lts-vivid

I want to keep thermald along with the current kernel number.
$ sudo apt install thermald
