I'm not sure what should happen here, should we treat mouse to be a
*trigger* for desktop mode, but a keyboard to be enough to retain it?

Should the switch to desktop mode be persistent? How would you then
reset back to "do the right thing"?

We always planned to remember the user's preference given a set of
inputs (screens, input devices, maybe others), we just didn't get to
implementing this, or rather designing it first properly.
