clean, just flashed (without wiping $HOME)
I remounted the filesystem in r/w mode and
apt-get update
apt-get install mir-demos (not sure if it's related though as it didn't pull in
any dependency)
apt-get install qtdeclarative5-qtmir-plugin
At that point the system suggests
phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~$ sudo apt-get install qtdeclarative5-qtmir-plugin
