Thank you Joseph, I will test v4.7-rc6 mainline build.

This is another first for me, so I need some time to learn this, plus I
will set up and install Ubuntu 16.04 on a different machine to avoid
risks, and test the bug on another computer. Hopefully I will have this
all done within 24-48 hours.

Please provide links if you know of any step-by-step tutorials (the kind
that don't leave out critical steps with the assumption that everyone
already knows to do, and how to do those steps). For example, if I have
to identify and remove all "out-of-tree modules" as the wiki mentions, I
would like to know exactly what I am doing.
