I tried it again , this time using DVD - R and the growisofs crashed
again.

This time the program lasted maybe 20 seconds longer before crashing. When it
starts, it says ' searching for old session', followed by 'updating RMA' (this
is new), then 'flushing the cache'
then 'growisofs crashed.
Checking setup and permissions were correct. Again the burner and k3b
work fine doing other functions , like burning regular CD's, ripping
CD's, file format conversion etc.
