I'm guessing it must have been the result of a PPA or other edit made to
the OS because I did a fresh install of Wily this AM, then after
updating and rebooting I performed a release upgrade and all went
perfectly.
I think sometime in the near future I'll open a wish list bug about
ubuntu-release-upgrader purging PPA's rather than just disabling them.
Or maybe at least listing the PPA's via:
for PPA_FILE in $(ls /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*.list); do egrep -v '^#|^
*$' ${PPA_FILE} | grep "ppa.launchpad.net" | cut -d "/" -f4-5; done
And then recommending that the user purge them and reboot before
performing the upgrade.
